Google and YouTube
Today, I felt like taking a look at that video from the founders of YouTube, where they announce the site was bought by Google. Also, I checked the video responses (which raise to more than 70 by now... wow), trying to find renetto's response. I had a laugh the first time I saw it and I wanted to see it again.
However, I found some mocking videos... they were funny, I admit it... but they also pissed me off.
And today, I feel frustrated and amazed that people can't be open-minded... All of those videos went on and on about how 'Google's gonna ruin YouTube' and how now the site's gonna be called 'GooTube' or 'GoogleTube'. Or merely suggesting that YT will disappear so that their technology will be absorbed by Google Video.
Flash News, people: It's NOT gonna happen! Any of it!
I mean, sure, Google is an 'internet Giant'... but it's not a heartless and careless giant. Google is not another big stupid company trying to take over the world and determined to do anything it takes to achieve that goal.
It cares about its users, visitors, employees... Google cares... and I honestly hate that people think it's gonna rip the insides of YouTube, eat it and then dump what is of no use for them (i.e. their style, logo, name, motto, etc...).
I saw some rather insulting jokes, such as the motto ("Broadcast yourself") being changed to "Broadcast what we tell you to broadcast"...
The best example that illustrates my point (that Google don't and won't just buy and screw good products) is exactly what I'm currently using: Blogger.
Has it changed (drastically, that is)? Has it become "Googler" or something like that? Has it turned into a white-screen page with a colorful logo (Google style)? Has it been attacked with loads of ads or useless buttons?
Google even decided to run their blogs using the Blogger services.
Ok, ok... Today I saw something about a 'new Blogger', but the screenshots looked the same (almost). It said you needed a Google account to use the new version, but it is optional.
No one's forcing the Blogger users to do anything.
And come on, let's be realistic, if Google bought Blogger, they ought to have some benefit from that purchase! The benefit is: more people with Google account.
Of course it has to grow. Of course it has to develop 'strenght'. Of course it wants more users. If *you* had a company and the oportuniy to make it grow... would you stay with your tiny, little company? Or would you let it become a big, known company?
I'm sorry about all the [perhaps useless] rambling, but I really wanted to blurt all that out... And anyway... why do I apologize? This is my blog, for God's sake! lol!
I'm off... for now...
